Dododex requires an internet connection each time you open the app.
Unfortunately, an internet connection is required for several reasons:
1. Fetching the latest creature data (Ark changes values occasionally, adds new creatures, and sometimes errors are fixed in Dododex's data, so a connection is required to fetch new data.)
2. Images of items and creatures are loaded from the web. While they are stored locally, new images are sometimes required if a new creature is added.
3. There are a few other "external" online components of the app (the form to report errors, feature suggestions, Kibble flow chart).
4. Ads require a connection.
In the next version of the app, creature data will be stored locally for a period of time so it will require a connection much less frequently (especially on Android, which fetches the data more often than iOS).
In the future, I may consider an "offline mode" in a paid version of the app, which wouldn't need a connection to serve ads, however, it seems like an offline mode would be a less than ideal experience for areas that need a connection to the internet. Also, Ark is an online game, so it seems like the need for this would be very low.
Sorry for the bump of this but I am all for offline mode,
For me, I like to browse and find out about certain tame times while I'm quiet in work, only problem is I don't have wifi here and not much data usage for the month so this would be amazing :)
Thanks so much for the suggestion, @Fjury. There's already a Product Pains post for this here: https://productpains.com/post/dododex/offline-access
Hi i really would like to see an offline mode. In my country we have only volume based online contracts, so i can only use this app when i'm at home with wifi.
I understand that ads need online connection, but you could add it as a Pro feature.
For the other things like new data, you could add a "update new data" button, so we could update the data when we have wifi.
Just dont use wlan or mobile data to use it, get all the data offline for better useability
